ABOUT
Kenneth Shevlin — Registered Clinical Counsellor in Vancouver, BC
MA Counselling Psychology · Registered Clinical Counsellor (RCC)
I’m a Registered Clinical Counsellor with an office on West Broadway in the Fairview and Kitsilano area of Vancouver, BC, working with adults navigating anxiety, trauma, ADHD, addiction, relationship challenges, neurodiversity, life transitions, and burnout. Sessions are available in-person in Vancouver and online across British Columbia, Alberta, Saskatchewan, Manitoba, Newfoundland, Yukon, Northwest Territories, and Nunavut. My practice is built on the belief that people are not their problems and that the right therapeutic relationship can change where one might feel stuck in their lives.
APPROACHMy approach to therapy
Three approaches shape the way I work — Narrative Therapy, Mindfulness, and Depth Work. I don’t apply them as fixed frameworks but draw on each based on what you bring and what the work calls for. In practice the lines between them are fluid. You can read the full breakdown on the Approach page — what each is, how it works, and which of your concerns each speaks most directly to.

THE WORK
WHAT IT’S LIKE TO WORK WITH ME
Sessions are collaborative, not prescriptive. I don’t arrive with a fixed agenda. I follow your lead, ask questions that open things up, and stay curious about what you bring into sessions. Most people find the first session different from what they expected: less clinical, more like a genuine conversation between two people trying to understand something together.
I work with adults who are thoughtful, self-aware, and sometimes frustrated that insight alone hasn’t been enough to change things. People who’ve tried to think their way out of something that lives deeper than thought. If that sounds like you, we’ll likely work well together. My approach is direct without being confrontational, warm, and honest about what therapy can and can’t do.
BACKGROUND
MY STORY
In 2012, I spent time as a weekend volunteer at a residential hospice in San Francisco’s Castro District, sitting with people facing the end of their lives. What I didn’t anticipate was how thoroughly they would teach me about courage, about finding meaning in difficulty, about the stories people tell when everything else falls away. When the program director pulled me aside to say I had a good instinct for this kind of work, it planted a seed that eventually became a Master’s degree and, years later, my practice as a clinical counsellor.
I’ve always been drawn to the question of how we construct meaning out of difficulty and how a person can live through something and come out telling a completely different story about what it meant. Narrative Therapy gave me a framework for that curiosity that I’ve never stopped finding useful. The work is different for every person, but the underlying question is often the same: what story are you living, and is it actually the one you want?
